Lewes Wedding Venue

Updated September 23, 2024

Having been a wedding photographer in Lewes for over ten years now, I thought it would be helpful to create a list of wedding venues I have had the pleasure of working in. A disclaimer: This is not a top-ten or "50 best" list, nor is it merit-based. I will provide my personal reasons for liking them and links to the weddings I have photographed on location. However, I would urge you to visit before committing to a booking.

By far, the wedding venue in Lewes where I have spent the most time. Not only because I live around the corner, but also because it is an incredibly beautiful and accessible location in a picturesque town. Comprising four rooms with capacities ranging from 15 to 60, Lewes Registry Office is a great choice for intimate to mid-sized wedding ceremonies and backs onto Southover Grange (see below). However, do watch out for football days, as parking is limited.

On exiting Lewes Registry Office via the back entrance, you immediately arrive on the terrace of Southover Grange Gardens, so the two venues tend to go hand in hand. I have taken wedding photographs for couples at the Grange who have had their ceremony elsewhere, so I believe the space deserves an independent listing. I have seen the park in all seasons, and it never disappoints. Managed by the local council, it is always well-maintained and features a plethora of architectural and natural wonders, making it a fantastic backdrop. Being a public garden, expect some people on sunny days, but dogs are not permitted, making it a great space for small children.

The current incarnation of St. Nicholas Church in Iford dates back to the 12th century, though the location itself was mentioned in the Domesday Book, which traces its history to the mid-9th century. It is, to say the least, a place of great historical significance. The church grounds are nestled within the South Downs, a chalky range of hills that span much of East Sussex, providing a stunning backdrop for picturesque views.
